The Ministry of Education (MOE) awarded scholarships and grants to 24 Singaporeans keen on pursuing an academic career at the 9th Singapore Teaching and Academic Research Talent Scheme (START) Award Ceremony today.
2. START provides a suite of undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships and awards to Singaporeans interested in an academic career at the Autonomous Universities (AUs), strengthening the pool of Singaporean talent in both research and teaching. Awardees study at local or overseas institutions, before embarking on their careers in Singapore. The awards include the Ministry of Education – Autonomous University (MOE-AU) Scholarship, Overseas PhD Scholarship, Overseas Post-Doctoral Fellowship, Early Career Awards, and the Inauguration Grant. The Ceremony was officiated by Mr Lai Chung Han, Permanent Secretary (Education), at the NTU Alumni Club.
3. Since its establishment in 2015, START has supported 209 Singaporeans across more than 30 disciplines, including Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics disciplines as well as the Humanities and Social Sciences. This year’s awardees broaden this range of disciplines, by pursuing studies in fields such as Earth Sciences, History, Biomechanics and Linguistics.
