The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) are organized by the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Educational Testing Centre. It is an independent assessment programme that assesses students’ abilities in a variety of academic subjects. Schools or individual students commonly initiate participation, with schools registering their students for the examinations. The assessments, prepared by experienced specialists, are aligned with the curriculum for various age groups. They are held annually in over 20 countries, including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Hong Kong, India, and the Pacific region.
Objective: UNSW ICAS
The primary goal of the UNSW ICAS is to assess students’ academic abilities and provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in key areas such as Digital Technologies, English, Mathematics, Science, Spelling, and Writing. It aims to encourage students to strive for greatness, to improve their critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities, and to develop a great understanding of the subjects.
Furthermore, enrolling in the UNSW ICAS can help students gain confidence, cultivate a competitive spirit, and create a love of study. The examinations are intended to push students to think creatively and innovatively, preparing them for future academic and professional endeavors.

Categories
The ICAS Mathematics evaluation covers a wide range of mathematical concepts and problem-solving abilities. Following are some common categories that are frequently included in ICAS Mathematics:
The goal of ICAS Mathematics is to examine students’ mathematical knowledge, understanding, and problem-solving abilities across a wide range of topics in order to promote critical thinking and analytical reasoning.
Competition format
The ICAS 2023 competition format is designed to evaluate students’ problem-solving skills within a constrained time frame. With a one-hour time limit, participants are tasked with answering 40 multiple-choice questions or 35 multiple-choice questions and 5 free-response questions, depending on their year level. The no-calculator rule adds an extra layer of complexity, necessitating quick thinking and mental agility as students deal with each question in just a little over a minute. This leaves your child with barely more than a minute to solve each question.
Syllabus/ Subject Matter Focus
ICAS incorporates various mathematical subjects. Following are the topics that your kid needs to study while preparing for the assessments.
