1.Get-Kids-Afloat (GKA)
Endorsed under the Sports Education
Programme by Singapore Sports Council.
The SAF Yacht Club’s Get Kids
Afloat Programme is an introductory sailing course for children and youth
between ages 7 to 15. It is a 4-day introductory sailing course conducted
during the school holidays. Besides having fun in learning to sail,
participants also get to make many new friends. Sailing is a thinking sport
that instills confidence, hones decision-making skills and trains the child’s
agility. Many of the Club’s sailors received their head start in sailing
through the GKA programme and gone on to pursue their passion for sailing
whilst carving sterling achievements in both the local and international
arenas.
The course syllabus includes theory
and practical lessons related to the rigging of crafts, parts of a craft,
points of sail, capsize drill, and more. Crafts used are Optimist, Topper, and
Laser Pico determined by the size of the participants. Parents are encouraged
to attend a short briefing on Tuesday morning at 9.30am to obtain an overview
of the course.
