Reviews
1.Foundations
(Suitable for NI and N2)
Foundations develops English language
skills by honing and expanding on fundamental early literacy development.
Phonemic
Awareness
WHAT?
The ability to identify, access and
differentiate sounds in words. In Foundations, the focus is on first sounds.
WHY?
Phonemic awareness is a strong predictor
of reading success, and explicit instruction in phonemic awareness fast-tracks
the learn-to-read process. This means that children who demonstrate strong
phonemic awareness go on to become better readers, sooner.
Oral
Communication
(Speaking And Listening Skills)
WHAT?
The ability to comprehend (listen) and
apply (speak) a wide variety of words and sentence structures to facilitate
meaningful communication.
WHY?
Students who begin school with a
relatively large vocabulary tend to learn more words, more quickly than
students who begin school with a poor vocabulary. That is, knowing more words
makes it easier to learn new words. Therefore, vocabulary development
accelerates your child’s comprehension and communication skills.

2.Success Stage 1
(Suitable for P1 to P3)
Training students to be exam smart,
Success Stage 1 focuses on all MOE curriculum requirements for Primary 1, 2 and
3, developing independent and proficient communicators.
Developing
Advanced Language Skills
WHAT?
Success Stage 1 is a complete literacy
programme catering to primary school students who are competent, independent
readers. Focus activities throughout the structured WorkBooks develop your
child’s advanced English language abilities in all language components,
primarily in the areas of Composition Writing, Grammar and Vocabulary Usage,
Stimulus-based Conversation, Reading Aloud, Written Comprehension and Examination
Preparation.
WHY?
Your child needs a rich language
environment in which they sequentially develop a strong foundation in all
aspects of English communication. All activities in Success 1, 2 and 3
WorkBooks are geared towards progressively developing your child’s skills in
preparation for the PSLE. Complementing individual attention and feedback from
our teachers, the style of the tasks and questions within the WorkBook
activities follow the primary schools’ examination requirements and the STELLAR
criteria, guiding your child to achieve their personal best in their respective
final-year examination.
Success
Stage 2
(suitable for P4 and P5)
Training students to be exam smart,
Preparation for PSLE prepares Primary 4 and 5 students for the PSLE through a
strategically-designed methodology and in-depth language activities.
Preparation
for PSLE
WHAT?
Preparation for PSLE focuses
strategically on developing exam skills for the 14 key language components of
the PSLE English Language exam, preparing students for the final stage, PSLE
Success (Success Stage 3). Working to further improve your child’s strengths
while overcoming their challenges, your child is introduced to the style of
language activities they will encounter, and on which they will be assessed, in
the PSLE. Through modelling, explanation and examples, language skills are
explicitly taught before assisted practice develops students’ understanding and
confidence.
WHY?
While a strong foundation in English and
oral communication skills is essential for a successful PSLE result, it is not
sufficient. Your child needs to understand the MOE PSLE exam components and
mastery of exam tips and strategies. This is difficult to achieve in a
classroom with a high student-teacher ratio typical of a school setting.
LCentral’s small class sizes, specialised teaching techniques, and motivational
teachers will cater to your child’s learning needs so that your child can
confidently advance to Primary 6 to conquer the final exam in primary school,
PSLE.
Success
Stage 3
(suitable
for P6)
Empowering students to excel, PSLE
Success teaches students high-level English language communication skills while
giving them exam practice strategies for competently and confidently sitting
the PSLE exam.

3.LaunchPad
(Suitable for N2 to K2)
LaunchPad enhances your child’s
pre-reading skills, which are essential to them becoming confident and
independent readers.
Phonemic
Awareness
WHAT?
The ability to identify, access and
differentiate sounds in words. In LaunchPad, the focus is on first, middle and
last sounds.
WHY?
Phonemic awareness is a strong predictor
of reading success, and explicit instruction in phonemic awareness fast-tracks
the learn-to-read process. This means that children who demonstrate strong
phonemic awareness go on to become better readers, sooner.
Phonics
WHAT?
The ability to identify a symbol (i.e.
letter) and access the sound it represents.
WHY?
Phonics builds on phonemic awareness.
Once your child is aware of the sounds of English, they are ready to learn the letters
that represent those sounds.
Automatic access to phonics is
fundamental to reading words and acquiring word attack skills in LiftOff,
giving your child the tool kit to confidently approach reading all kinds of
texts.
Grapheme
Blending
WHAT?
Combining the skills of phonemic
awareness and phonics, grapheme blending is the ability to instantly recognise
letters, automatically access the sounds, and blend the sounds together in any
order or sequence. Blending is the main tool by which students should attempt
to read unfamiliar words.
WHY?
One step short of reading, grapheme
blending provides a fundamental understanding of how sounds are related to
written language, and the confidence to apply the skills to real texts, such as
stories.
Sight Words
WHAT?
Words which appear frequently and usually
do not have a clear letter-sound relationship, for example, words like ‘one’,
‘the’ and ‘was’.
WHY?
Sight words are critical to reading. Your
child will be taught to identify words that appear frequently but do not have a
clear letter-sound relationship (sight words) to build fluency, and therefore
reading comprehension.
