1.GRADED PIANO COURSES
All students at JKPA are prepared for
graded examinations of The Associated Board Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).
The piano lessons are conducted on a
weekly basis:
45 minutes for Grade 4 (inclusive of
music theory)
1 hour for Grade 5 (inclusive of music
theory)
1 hour for Grades 6 to 8
Admissions
Our music teachers, trained by Ms
Josephine Koh adopt a disciplined, yet interesting and lively pedagogical
approach. Auditions are held between the months of September to February each
year for the admission of new students.
Course Coverage
All students are prepared thoroughly in
scales, sight-reading and aural tests. Constant evaluation is carried out
during scheduled performance classes with Ms Josephine Koh on Sundays.
Repertoire and technique development take place in the post-examination period
between September to December. Besides preparing for exams, students are taught
contemporary, modern and jazz piano styles. Selected students are given the
opportunity to participate in competitions, perform in various concerts
including the annual JKPA Young Students’ Recital.

2.Music Theory Class
Students at JKPA attend Group Music
Theory classes, taking the ABRSM Grades 6,7 and 8 examinations. The coverage is most comprehensive: harmony, counterpoint, melodic composition,
aural perception, music history, knowledge of musical forms and terms and composers. The approach combines individual attention
for each student in tutorial style and capitalizes on group dynamics when
facilitating discussions. Students
develop interests and achieve outstanding results through clear understanding
of concepts, learning in a multimedia setting and engaging in work. Many students at JKPA are top scorers and
music prize awardees in MEP schools namely in RGS, RI, ACSI, MGS, NYGH,
TKGS. It is the tradition at JKPA for
the past decades that students obtain only distinctions at 'O' and 'A' level
music examinations. We offer the best
theory courses in Singapore, taught solely by the music author of the Practice
in Music Theory series, and several other books - Ms Josephine Koh.
